Now that I got my eyes opened for Zbrush again, I find myself struggling with the displacement maps from Zbrush 3.12B.
Using Mudbox displacement in Maya is perfect all the time, but Zbrush maps are - how to express that - GRRR!
They are bloated, and its really annoying!
When I try to use the same displacement map in Modo, then it renders fine..
So far the best displacement map settings for Maya in Zbrush 3.12B has been:
Adaptive = on
SmoothUV = on (I found that if this is off, the shape of the UVs will show up in the actual rendering, and it will not be smoothed off as one would expect)
mid = 0 (when using 0 instead of the default 0.5, you dont have to touch the alpha settings in Maya)
Scale = 1
FlipV = on
3 channels = on
32 bit = on
DPSubPix = 1 (haven’t tried with more yet, due to the extra conversion time)
If I get the holy grail of Zbrush 3.12B and Maya I will of course post them here
I have found messing with the alpha gain and offset really reduce the bloat. I am sure you have heard that right?
ReplyDeleteyup :) but thanks for pointing it out.
